Top 5 African countries that produced the most oil in February 2025

Similar to its last update, the report by the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), showed that Nigeria produced the most oil in Africa, for the month of February.

In February, the OPEC Reference Basket (ORB) declined by $2.57, or 3.2%, month on month, to average $76.81 per barrel.

The ICE Brent (a global benchmark for crude oil prices) front-month contract fell by $3.40, or 4.3%, month over month, to average $74.95/b, while the NYMEX WTI front-month contract fell by $3.89, or 5.2%, month over month, to average $71.21/b.

The report also mentions that the global economic growth predictions remain constant at 3.1% in 2025 and 3.2% in 2026.

The global oil demand growth forecast for 2025 remains unchanged at 1.4 mb/d.

The Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) is expected to increase by roughly 0.1 mb/d year on year, whereas the non-OECD will grow by about 1.3 mb/d.

Strong oil demand growth is predicted to continue in 2026. Global oil consumption is expected to increase by 1.4 million barrels per day (mb/d) in 2026, unchanged from last month's prediction.

The OECD is expected to expand by roughly 0.1 mb/d year on year, whereas non-OECD demand is expected to rise by about 1.3 mb/d.

“Preliminary estimates for OECD Europe show crude in February were higher both m-o-m and y-o-y, on increased flows to Spain, Poland, and Netherlands. OECD Europe product exports were down amid lower flows to Africa,” the report states.

With that said, here are the African countries with the highest oil production last month in thousand barrels per day (tb/d).

Compared to the list last month, production volumes for Nigeria, Libya and Algeria saw an uptick, while production volumes for Congo and Gabon, saw a slight decrease.
