Democrats are celebrating a big win in the special election for Wisconsin's Supreme Court on Tuesday, and the House minority leader is making a prediction about how Iowa will go in the coming years.
Susan Crawford had backing from national Democrats and got the win for Wisconsin's Supreme Court, despite Elon Musk sinking $25 million into support for the Republican candidate in the race.
On the heels of that win, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries is making a prediction about the next national election and calling out an eastern Iowa rep in Washington. He predicts U.S. Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks (R-Iowa) will be "gone after the next election."
"In the first special election of the Trump presidency in Iowa, in a state Senate district, in a conservative part of a swing Iowa district currently represented by representative Miller Meeks, one of the most unpopular Congress members in the country, the Democrat won," House Minority Leader Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D) New York said. "Trump had won that state Senate district in Iowa by 21 points. Democrat wins by four. That's a 25 point over performance."
Mariannette Miller-Meeks is planning to run for a third term next year.
Davenport Republican David Pautsch has already announced he's considering challenging Miller-Meeks in the primary.
There's been no word on any Democratic candidates for that race yet.
