City National Continues Buildout of its Aerospace and Defense Industry Group with Credit and Relationship Manager Hires

SAN DIEGO, Dec. 12, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- City National Bank, California’s Premier Private and Business Bank^®, announces that it has hired Jon VanDerMeid as senior vice president and credit manager, and Laura Dodd as vice president and relationship manager, for its newly created Aerospace and Defense group based in Southern California.  The bank is building out a highly specialized team of A&D banking professionals to handle City National’s nationwide initiative to service this growing and vibrant industry.

The A&D team is headquartered in Southern California, where there is a large industry concentration and influence on the local economy.  The goal is to have a team of A&D bankers located on the west and east coasts.  The markets where City National will have a presence will also depend on the talent the bank is able to attract in those parts of the country that have A&D business opportunities.

In his new role as senior vice president and credit manager, VanDerMeid is responsible for managing a team of credit officers focused on the Aerospace, Defense, and Government Services sector, throughout the US.  His team provides industry expertise, structuring guidance, and credit services in support of Aerospace and Defense clients with revenues from $50 million to $5 billion. The credit team will be located in Orange County.

VanDerMeid has over 14 years of experience in Commercial and Investment Banking, with roughly 5 years focused in the Aerospace & Defense sector. He previously served as director and credit manager at MUFG Union Bank where he was responsible for managing credit risk and developing credit strategy for the entire regional bank. Prior to that he was a vice president and senior credit officer at Bank of America where he was covering middle market clients in Orange County between $50 million and $2 billion in revenue. During that time he also acted as the lead underwriter for the west coast Aerospace and Defense group. His banking career also includes various credit roles within JPMorgan Chase’s Middle Market and Investment Bank groups located in Chicago.

VanDerMeid has broad transactional experience ranging from single bank credit facilities to leading large bank syndications. His experience also ranges across various products including commercial loans, leases, letters of credit, securitized products, capital markets, and derivatives.

VanDerMeid relocated his family from Chicago, IL in 2014 and currently resides in Irvine, CA. He is a graduate of Michigan State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance. He is active in his local church and the community, volunteering and coaching his two sons in youth athletics.

Dodd serves as vice president and relationship manager for City National Bank’s Aerospace and Defense banking practice, located in San Diego, CA.  In her new role with City National, Dodd is responsible for managing and advising a portfolio of commercial clients in the Aerospace, Defense, and Government Services sector.  She provides companies with insights and expertise with respect to industry trends and financial strategies in support of business growth, recapitalizations, acquisition financings, and risk reduction.

Dodd has more than 7 years of experience in banking with over 4 of those years focused in the Aerospace & Defense sector.  She previously served as vice president and relationship manager at Bank of America, covering the San Diego business banking market with a concentration on the Aerospace & Defense sector.  Prior to that, Laura was an associate for the west coast middle market Aerospace & Defense group.  Her experience in the banking industry started with positions in internal reporting, financial analysis, and legal finance in Charlotte, North Carolina. Prior to banking, Laura was the controller for Carolina Pest Management in Monroe, North Carolina.  The company was founded by her great-grandfather in 1927 and remains within the family’s management.

Dodd graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of North Carolina Wilmington, with double concentrations in Finance and Marketing.  She is active in the community, serving as a member of the Steering Committee of the San Diego chapter of the Aerospace & Defense Forum, and fostering for adoptable dogs in the local community.

The Aerospace & Defense banking group is headquartered at City National’s San Diego Regional Center at 4275 Executive Square, Suite 750, in La Jolla.  The A&D team reports to Michael Walker, executive vice president and head of City National’s Commercial Banking Division.  Griesbach hopes to have additional hires for the group located on both west and east coasts in 2019.
